Stewardship in practice / Case Study 001

Imagine Kentwood.

How one established church is examining its property, ministry, community, and next generation before deciding what to build.

The question

What could this property become in service to the mission?

Kentwood Heights Baptist Church holds valuable property, a meaningful history, active ministries, and opportunities that extend beyond a single building project.

Rather than begin with drawings, Stewardship First began with listening: understanding the congregation, WEE Care ministry, Route 249 frontage, community needs, long-term sanctuary vision, financial realities, and the next generation the church hopes to reach.

Four opportunities under discernment

VK–001

Community Ministry Center

A flexible gathering and recreation facility supporting worship, youth, athletics, fellowship, and weekday community use.

VK–002

WEE Care Expansion

Strengthening a trusted children’s ministry and extending the church’s daily connection with young families.

VK–003

Route 249 Development

Exploring responsible frontage development that can serve the community and support long-term ministry sustainability.

VK–004

Future Sanctuary

Preserving a long-range worship vision while allowing scope, timing, and phasing to emerge through discernment.

The Stewardship First difference

“The goal is not to persuade a church to build. The goal is to help it faithfully understand what God has already placed in its hands.”

Kentwood remains an active discernment process. The options are vision illustrations—not predetermined final designs. Scope, phasing, and implementation will evolve as leadership and congregation test the opportunities against mission, stewardship, community, and legacy.
